| Biology | Science | SLH2203 | This course addresses key concepts and processes related to the chemistry of life, cells, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, genetics, and DNA, evolution, classification, and ecology. Students in biology will participate in lab work to facilitate learning and participate as scientists doing science. Through this class students will develop skills of a biologist: using a microscope, collecting data, analyzing data, and supporting ideas with biological evidence. All Biology students at the end of the semester must take the state EOC assessment. | 1.00 | HTA | Physical Science or STEM 1 | Y | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |

| Chemistry | Science, Electives |
SPH3505 | This course addresses key concepts and processes from states of matter, atomic theory, organization of the periodic table, types of chemical bonds and reactions, the naming and formulas of chemicals, chemical reactions, and stoichiometry. The field of chemistry in relation to the scientific method is also explained. This course also addresses properties of solids, liquids, and gases, state changes, solutions, flow of energy, enthalpy, heat, entropy and free energy, rates of reactions, equilibrium, acid-base theories, oxidation and reduction, electromagnetic cells, functional groups, polymerization, biochemicals, and nuclear chemistry. The course explores concepts through lessons and lab videos. | 1.00 | HTA | Biology and Algebra 1 | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |

| Comparative Anatomy | Science, Electives |
SLH2503 | Students explore the anatomical structures of diverse organisms across the Animalia kingdom. Emphasis is placed on the form and evolutionary development of these structures, particularly in relation to their ecological roles and environmental adaptations. Through comparative analysis, students will investigate how anatomy reflects an organism's function, behavior, and niche within its ecosystem. | 1.00 | HTA | Biology | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |

| Environmental Science (Field Ecology) | Science, Electives |
SIH3603 | In this advanced science course, students will explore and investigate the interrelationships of the natural world and analyze natural and human-made environmental problems. Students will take part in laboratory investigations and fieldwork and can expect to gain skills in the following areas of scientific study - explaining environmental concepts and processes, analyzing data, visual representations, and writings, applying quantitative methods in solving problems, proposing solutions for environmental problems, supporting ideas with evidence, and analyzing a research study to identify a hypothesis. Strong emphasis will be placed on climate change, biodiversity, local (Hawaiian) environmental problems, and mitigation strategies. This course is designed for students with a strong interest in science and wants to challenge themselves to think deeply and critically about earth systems and environmental problems. | 1.00 | HTA | 10th - 12th grade students; STEM I and Biology preferred | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |

| Forensic Science | Science, Electives |
SAH3003 | Fingerprints. Blood Splatter. DNA analysis. The world of law enforcement is increasingly making use of the techniques and knowledge from the sciences to better understand the crimes that are committed and to catch those individuals responsible for the crimes. forensic science applies scientific knowledge to the criminal justice system. This lab based course focuses on some of the techniques and practices used by forensic scientists during a crime scene investigation (CSI). Starting with how clues and data are recorded and preserved, the student will follow evidence trails until the CSI goes to trial, examining how various elements of the crime scene are analyzed and processed. | 1.00 | HTA | Physical Science or STEM 1, Biology recommended but not required | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |

| Human Physiology and Kinesiology | Science, Electives |
SLH7503 | Human Physiology and Kinesiology is a second year biology laboratory course with an in-depth focus and study of the functions and movement of the human organism and its parts. Students are provided with extended opportunities to study issues, topics, and themes relevant to human physiology. Emphasis is on using scientific inquiry and analysis of the relationships between science, technology, and society to cover concepts of systems such as blood, circulation, respiration, nutrition, digestion, metabolism, muscular system, nervous system, and reproduction are studied in terms of interaction of the functions and their contribution to the maintenance of a proper condition of the body's internal environment. | 1.00 | HTA | Biology | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |

| Marine Science | Science, Electives |
SEH2503 | Marine Science is an interdisciplinary course that explores the origins of the ocean and the development of life in marine environments. Students study marine ecosystems by examining primary producers, plankton, marine plants, and the diversity of marine organisms, including invertebrates, fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The course also investigates physical ocean processes such as waves, tides, and ocean currents and how they influence marine systems. Human impacts on the ocean are emphasized through the study of marine pollution, habitat alteration, climate change, and the role of marine protected areas in conservation and sustainability. | 1.00 | HTA | Biology | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |
Blended & Distance Learning Program |
| Physical Science | Science | SPH2603 | This hands-on, lab-based course centers on the engineering and design process as students utilize problem-solving skills to engage in integrated coursework. Students will identify problems, research solutions, create prototype designs, and test these prototypes. The skills learned in this class will transfer to upper-level science courses. The concepts explored include forces and motion, machines, energy, work, electricity, the periodic table, chemical bonds, and chemical reactions. | 1.00 | HTA | N | Distance Learning Kihei Kona Lihue Waipahu |
